As John Maxwell said, “There is almost no limit to the potential of an organization that recruits good people, raises them up as leaders and continually develops them.” This philosophy is at the heart of Empowerment U, Brown Bag’s newly launched leadership development program.
Brown Bag has always invested in its employees, so we’re excited to formalize our commitment to our future leaders with Empowerment U. At the outset of this one-year program, participants collaborate with their executive sponsors to develop a personal leadership development plan. Each plan consists of an individual curriculum, three group projects and a community service component.
We’re proud to announce the inaugural class: Kelley Lyness, Kate Ray and Kelly Campbell. We talked to them about what Empowerment U means to them. Here’s what they had to say:
“As an account executive, I’ve had the opportunity to work with some of Brown Bag’s largest clients. I see Empowerment U as an opportunity to further my growth professionally and personally. My competitive spirit helps me approach situations with the attitude it takes to better not only the project at hand, but my peers, as well. I can’t wait to share the skills I gain through Empowerment U with my fellow Baggers for the benefit of the agency as a whole.”
“I am an art director at Brown Bag. I collaborate daily with designers, copywriters and project managers to generate powerful visual solutions for our clients’ brands. I wanted to be a part of the Empowerment U program because I want to grow alongside my company for the next 10+ years! Everyone here is incredibly talented and wants to see our clients and our company grow—and they all have the drive to do so. These are the kind of people I love being around. Through this program, I hope to learn how to navigate crucial conversations, articulate design decisions with stakeholders, and build confidence in sharing my ideas.”
“As a talent manager, I focus on finding, recruiting and onboarding new employees who are not only insanely talented at their craft, but also best represent our company’s cultural values. I also run our intern program and love helping develop junior team members as they discover what it is they were made to do. I am thrilled to be part of the inaugural class of Empowerment U and am looking forward to growing my leadership skills so I can continue to help others grow their talents and careers.”
