A $2 Billion reminder

I cringed a little, ok a lot, when I read of the largest health care fraud settlements in U.S. history levied against Johnson & Johnson (and its subsidiaries) by the FDA. My heart sank deeper and deeper as I read on…

J&J will pay $2.2 Billion to settle allegations that they promoted three prescription drugs for off-label use, minimized risks associated with those drugs, provided kickbacks to doctors, and incentivized off-label promotions of these drugs to their sales rep.

This is a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to the constraints of a highly-regulated industry. The release deserves a close read for all of us, agency-side, who service human and animal pharma clients.
